Tip Tip!
The usual cause with a tip wearing down on one side more than the other, is holding the cue in the same place when you play your shot. A lot of people have this problem, including myself. Keep on top of this by using sandpaper to keep it level.

Hi John
Let me first say that I really like the new website and the its great to have the clinic back once again
Two part question
a)
I would like to know how to improve the consistency of my break building. I have been playing for about 15 years – my best break is 128. However I do not score consistently and I am concerned that maybe I have reached my potential already?
b)
I often find that I turn the cue slightly on follow through to the right – How can I correct this? Having a planed flat of the cue butt seems to interfere with my grip too. Is this a cause?
Many thanks,
James Lake
Hi James. Thank you for your e mail, hopefully I can help you with your questions. Firstly may I congratulate you on your highest break, and no I don’t think you’ve reached your potential. Its now all about confidence, you have the ability you just have to believe in yourself. If you start a session not quite right concentrate that bit harder, it will come.
The answer to the second question is a bit more difficult. Hitting across the ball is not a good thing particularly on long shots. Having not seen your stance its hard to comment on why you’re pushing the cue to the right. Sometimes this can be caused with your body getting in the way, try standing a little more side on.
Hope that’s of some help, please let me know how you get on. J.V
Hi John
thanks for your useful advice. I have changed to standing slightly side on as you suggested, and it really helps me get my body in line with the shot. I have been practising recently about twice per week and as a result my scoring has definately got more consistent than it was. I played a friend this week and although not in top gear made breaks of 62,54,39,32,23 in 3 games. The 62, was 4 reds left in the open but I left myself a tricky black – should made 100 there. I also made breaks of 107,120 but that was alone hehe.
Although this is a somewhat purple patch, generally my concern is that its all too easy for me to fall back into inconsistent and lazy snooker.
1)How can i keep my consistency and focus?
2)I also often get trapped in two minds (hesitation) over the right shot causing me to break down when in the balls. Any tips or suggestions?
Many thanks for your time and patience.
God bless
James
Hi John,
I find that my tip wears down more on one side than the other. What in my technique would cause this to occur?
Regards
Steve

I would not be overly concerned, it never bothered me.
